How To Prevent Loose Skin After Weight Loss

Sponsored Links

Every year, people endure painful and expensive cosmetic surgery to remove loose folds of skin that remain after losing weight. If you want to lose a large amount, it's important to go about it in the right way if you want to prevent loose skin after weight loss. Here are some tips for avoiding saggy skin as you slim down:

Lose weight slowly

This is perhaps the most important part of avoiding loose skin. If you lose too much weight too quickly, your skin may not be elastic enough to snap back into shape afterwards. So even though you may be impatient to lose weight fast, take it at a steady pace and just aim to lose no more than two pounds a week. You'll be glad you did later!

Exercise

Make sure that you do some weight training as part of your exercise regime. This will build lean muscle tissue, which can help to firm up the gaps left by the fat you're losing. And don't worry about bulking up - very few people can build bulky muscles naturally without an intense body building regime. Stick to relatively light weights and you'll achieve a lean, toned look, not huge muscles.

Eat well

Ensure that you eat a healthy diet that is rich in protein and other nutrients. Your body will need these to maintain healthy skin, and if you make the mistake of crash dieting or eating an unbalanced diet to lose weight, you won't get the nutrients you need, and your skin will be one of the first areas to suffer. Make sure you drink plenty of water too, especially if you're exercising - this will help to keep your skin hydrated and plump.

If you've already lost weight and your skin is sagging, don't rush off to get cosmetic surgery right away. Many people find that loose skin caused by weight loss will tighten up naturally over time, although it can take a while. Using a good moisturising cream that is designed to tighten loose skin might help to speed the process up a little, but the best path is to keep exercising, eating healthily and drinking plenty of water.

But prevention is better than cure, so do everything you can to prevent loose skin after weight loss, and make slow weight loss backed by a healthy diet your top priority.
